Authors whose papers has been accepted must pay $ 50 (fifty pesos) for articles not longer than 8 pages, otherwise $ 10 (ten pesos) will be paid for extra page. For less number of pages $ 30 (thirty pesos) will be charged.
Inadequately prepared manuscripts or out of the scope of the Journal will be returned to the authors without review. Authors are asked to state, in a letter accompanying the manuscript, names, addresses, telephone, fax numbers, and electronic mail of 3 qualified experts to act as possible referees. Manuscripts will be reviewed for two or three anonymous referees.
Manuscripts for publication should be submited to the Editor in Chief or Associated Editors.

THE MANUSCRIPT
The original copy and two duplicates are required. All parts of the manuscript, should be typewritten, double-spaced, on paper A4 with numbered lines and pages and margins of 2.5 cm. No spelling is recommended. The titles (in uppercase and bold), subtitles (in lowercase and bold) and subtitles of second level (in lowercase and italic) will be written in the left margin.
Presentation of the manuscript
Cover page: a) complete paper title, b) authors, with their institution and postal addresses, and, c) name, postal addres, telephone, fax numbers and electronic mail of the corresponding author. This cover page is removed during the editorial process. The following pages should contain: a) Title, b) Summary (up to 250 words), c) Key words (five, in order of importance), d) running title, e) Title in Spanish, f) Resumen in Spanish, g) Palabras clave, and, h) the main text with the following sections (if possible): Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discusion, Conclusion, Acknowledgements, Bibliography, Tables, Figures, Photographs, and, Figures and Photographs captions. Tables, Figures and Photographs captions must be translated to Spanish.
The publication process
Once the manuscript is accepted, the final version (two duplicates) and an electronic copy should be submitted. Text files and figure files should be submitted on disks IBM PC compatible. The disk must be labelled clearly with authors’ name and files names with their extensions and word-processing and graphic software used (version number) must be indicated. WordPefect or Word are preferred, if not, documents should be send as an ASCII file. Our preferred graphic software are Qpro, Excel or CorelDraw or in CGM, WMF, TIFF, PCX or BMP format. The galley proofs must be checked by the authors and must be returned within 7 (seven) days of receipt. The Journal provides 25 reprints free of charge.
Abbreviations and scientific names
Abbreviations for names, proccedures, etc. must be defined the first time they occur. The use of SI units is required. The dates should be written as follow: 8 february 1997. When a species is first mentioned, the vernacular name (if any) and scientific name (italic or underlined), with the author, should be given. Subsequently, either the vernacular or the scientific name, without the author, may be used. In the title, the names of organisms should be either in the vernacular or in Latin without their authors. In the summary and resumen the names of organisms should be in Latin or vernacular with their authors.
References
The references must follow the form (Smith & Robinson, 1987), Smith & Robinson (1987), (Robinson et al., 1980; Smith & Anderson, 1978); (Smith, 1970; 1972).The papers with three or more authors should be cited as: Smith et al., (1986). If references occur that are not uniquely identified by the authors’ name and year, use , a, b, c, etc. after the year (e.g. Smith & Robinson, 1988a; 1988b). Personal communications should be cited as (Robinson, pers. com., 1980). References must be listed in alphabetical order according to the name of the first author and not numered. References with the same first author are listed in the following order. (1) Papers with one author only are listed first in chronological order, beginning with the earliest paper. (2) Papers with dual authorship follow and are listed in alphabetical order by the last name of the second author. (3) Paper with three or more authors appear after (2) and are arranged chronologically. The references must be written as the following examples:

Tables
Tables must be numbered with Arabic numbers and should have a brief title (in english and spanish). Each table must be self-explanatory. Vertical lines should not be used. In the text Table position must be indicated in a separated line, e.g. (Table 1, here). Each table should be typed on separate pages and placed after the list of references.
Illustrations
Each figure or group of figures should be included on separate pages, numbered with Arabic numbers and follow the tables. In the text their position must be indictated, e.g. (Figure 1, here). The maximum finished size of a one-column illustration is 6.5 x 19.7 cm and that of a two-column ilustration is 13.3 x 19.7 cm. Illustrations should be made with Indian ink on plain white paper. Computer-generated illustrations must be printed with laser or inkjet printer on withe paper. Lettering must be arial. Only in the original version the authors’ name must be typewritten at the back side of each figure. Axes’ thickness must be of 0.3 mm. The symbols will not less than 2.0 mm in diameter or size. The photographs should be included only when they are essential. They must be made on glossy paper. Black and white, and colour photographs are admitted. Authors will be responsible for the costs of colours photographs. Currently the cost is U$S 500 per page or part of a page. Legends for figures and photographs should be typewritten in english and spanish on separate pages.
